RN 74

SOMA, San Francisco
Chef: Micheal Minna

Named after the RN74 railway that goes through the Burgundy region in France, this urban wine bar and restaurant by Michael Mina, Rajat Parr and Jason Berthold  situates at the foot of San Francisco's 58-story Millennium Tower.

RN74 features Burgundy-inspired dishes utilizing locally sourced ingredients and its astounding wine selection.  Thankfully, it was a client dinner as there were only a few bottles of wine under $100. =)

RN74 was awarded Wine Spectator’s highest honor of the Grand Award in 2010, its first eligible year.

The windows of the restaurant have slats like train cars, each table is numbered like staterooms, and some of the featured wines are listed on the old fashioned schedule boards from stations.

MAITAKE MUSHROOM TEMPURA
scallion mousseline, yuzu salt

Mushrooms were lightly fried and salted and the meat was tender and fluffy.

PÂTÉ DE CAMPAGNE
whole grain mustard, cornichons

HALF-DOZEN EAST COAST OYSTERS ON THE HALF SHELL
red wine mignonette

PASTRAMI-CURED SCOTTISH SALMON TARTARE
warm brioche, dill creme fraiche, herb salad

BROKEN ARROW RANCH QUAIL
Mushroom ragout, fava beans, poached jidori egg

FOIE GRAS TERRINE
Sauternes, quince, green peppercorn, duck prosciutto, toasted brioche

WARM BEIGNETS
NUTMEG, WHIPPED CRÈME ANGLAISE, CHICORY CARAMEL

It was a sweet French touch to end with miniature financiers, small almond cakes.

RN74 is a great place that offers an amazing wine selection, and delicious bites. Although tasty food, excellent service, but the "loudness" level for fine dining was a bit too much for me.
