Café Horta

Antwerp, Belgium

This is an exclusive contemporary building using the typical style elements of the famous Belgian art nouveau architect Victor Horta. Encased in glass with views from the basement bar up to the street level, this restaurant has steel iron girders which were salvaged from Victor Horta's Art Nouveau masterpiece, Maison du Peuple.

Quote from the menu:

"Victor Horta built the "Maison du Peuple" in Brussels in 1897, and despite many protests, it was demolished in 1963.  For 35 years the remainders were left in a field with the consequence that the rest was sold and melt in Japan and others been stolen.  Afterwards the remainders were exhibited in 1984 Ghent and further in 1991 on Flanders technology.  Different kind of projects for a reconstruction in Ghent followed but not one was realized.  Then Mr. Jan Toe, Mt. Edgard Goedleven met and together they came up with the idea of the beer culture houses.  For Antwerp '93 there was an organized competition to restore "Horta".  The proposal of brewery Palm won and could be caried out.  Halle Art Nouveau as a result.  In 2000, both opened their doors and became a big success, they are situated in the heart of Antwerp fashion district.  There is a focus on serving contemporary dishes with beef, but there's also an comprehensive list of beverages with, of course, a fine selection of beers from brewery Palm."

Estaminet
The outstanding quality of ESTMINET is thanks to the selection of the best natural ingredients: soft water. 100% high-grade summer barley, a distinctive yeast and very costly Saaz hops.  The full gravity, slow and traditional bottom fermentation that brings about the fruity character and six full weeks of maturation ensure that ESTMINET is a true Belgian Premium Lager.
