Katong Laksa

49 Katong Laksa
Singapore

Katong area is undisputed home of laksa, a coconut curry noddle soup found throughout South East Asia.  At this particular junction of East Coast Rd and Ceylon, you will find the two most popular laksa rivalries of all time:  328 Katong Laksa vs. 49 Katong Laksa - each claiming to be the real McCoy of this local dish.

We decided to try 49 Katong Laksa, which is the stall that started it all.  However, it is no longer run by the original operators but still arguably the best in town.

This laksa is served with a dollop of chili, with strands of thick glassy noodles in this coconut creamy gravy that exuded a mixture of spices and fragrant sweetness.

A side order of Otah - spicy fish paste

Eating this dish in tropical Singapore might make you drench in sweat. But it is all worth it!
