Chez Papa

Union Square, San Francisco
Chef: Steven Rojas

A trendy restaurant located inside the Mint Plaza with a contemporary French flare at a reasonable price.

The interior of the restaurant has a sexy vibe, with its dark walls, black chandeliers and an oversize orange banquette.  There was a bar and a communal table to demonstrate a lively atmosphere.

House made Cheese Croquette

Before we ordered, we were presented these baked cheese croquettes  - on the house.
It was nice touch.

Kobe Beef tartare, Dijon mustard, ketchup, parsley, shallots, capers, cornichons, quail egg

The waiter mixed the tartare for us and shaped it into a heart.  A little too cheesey for our party.

Special:  House-made Squid Ink Capellini Pasta
with Calamari & Mussels and Sea Urchin cream sauce topped with cured millet roe

Recommended by our waitress, this dish was not on the menu.  So we took a leap of faith and the result was not disappointing.  The calamari and mussels were fresh, and the squid ink pasta was flavorful and the sea urchin sauce was unique and amazing!  The only downside was the small portion of the pasta.  We wanted more!

Frites with aioli

Grilled Flat iron steak with Bordelaise sauce

I wouldn't say this was the best french bistro in the neighborhood, but it had its own element.  My favorite was the squid ink pasta.  Service was professional and decor was sexy.
