Sushi Kei

Millbrae, CA
Sushi chef: Ryo Kikuchi

Located in downtown Millbrae, Sushi Kei is truly a neighborhood gem!  Forget about the ratings on yelp.  You need to order things that are not on the menu!  Making reservation ahead of time, the family came here for a little reunion.

Green tea for everyone

Hot House Sake

Tamago with Unagi

This was definitely a unique roll.  The honey tasting eel wrapped with homemade tamago.  The downside was that the sweet teriyaki taste from the unagi

Kama Toro
Collar bone of the Blue Fin Tuna

A rare cut with a equal amount of fat content.

Amaebi
This was from the special menu, an Alaskan pink amaebi.  It was clear and sweet, simply amazing!

Beef Teriyaki with Tempura

We opted to have the head of the amoebi to be deep fried.

Love to see how much goodies are inside the head.
Simply delish!

Grilled Mackerel

This fish was grilled to the perfection.  The texture is soft and buttery.  Even my dad, a self-proclaimed fish  connoisseur said it was done well.

Uni

It has a fresh creamy soft texture and tasted a bit like the sea without the fishy smell.

Seared Shiro Maguro (White Tuna)
So fresh and we can see the sushi chef hard at work when he was using the blow torch to sear the fish.

Freshly made tomago.  It's chunky and tasty.

Huge piece of home made tamago.
Divine.

A house special roll:
Too Much Choleste-Roll
(Monk Fish Liver, Fatty Tuna, Salmon Roe, Sea Urchin, Snow Crab, Yellow Tail & Avocado)

LOL - the name of the roll.

Sushi Kei is now one of our favorite sushi place in the area. This is our third time coming to this hole in the wall restaurant.  Highly recommended by a cousin that lives close by, Sushi Kei did not disappoint.  They do not focus on the top end sashimi, but on occasion you may be lucky to find some tantalizing bites like the kama toro (blue fin tuna's collar)  or engawa (halibut's fin) to satisfy your appetite.
