House of Poutine
West Queen West, Toronto
Anthony Bourdain's recent visit to Poutini for filming his "Layover" episodes - Toronto stop.
Since we were visiting Canada, we can't leave without patronizing some authentic Canadian poutines establishments! It's all about the hand-cut fries with squeaky curd and hot smooth gravy. Located in the heart of the West Queen West district, a hippie part of town, Poutini's was funky with a rustic interior.
Their Description on their website for their ingredients:
Description
Fries: Our fries are hand cut, in-house daily, with the potato skin on. The potatoes are then fried twice, Belgian style, in 0 trans fat and non hydrogenated vegetable oil, which is also low in saturated fat and cholesterol free.
Cheese: Our cheese curds arrive fresh from Maple Dale Farms, delivered every other day (which maintains their squeakiness).
Traditional Gravy: We make our traditional
gravy in-house, everyday, by roasting bones and fresh vegetables, letting them simmer for at least 8 hours, thickening and then seasoning to perfection.
Vegetarian Gravy: We make our vegetarian gravy in-house, everyday, by roasting a variety of fresh vegetables and letting them simmer until ready. Then the gravy is thickened and seasoned to perfection.
Vegan/Gluten-Free: We add a helping of Daiya vegan cheese, the most delicious vegan cheese on the market. It melts, tastes amazing and doesn't contain dairy, soy, gluten or any nut product. It is smothered with gravy that is homemade with our vegetarian stock and thickened with cornstarch and nutritional yeast flakes.

Bacon Poutine
(Traditional Poutine + Bacon)
Somehow Canadians love their bacon. No matter where you go, you will never fail to find it on the menu.
Overall the french fries itself was amazing, deep fried with the skin on with crispy exterior and soft interior. The cheese curds were creamy and half melted into the fries. Perfect texture when consumed with the thick flavorful brown gravy.
